HOW THE STEM CELLS ARE PROTECTED AND STORED:
In our state-of-the-art laboratory, we isolate the stem cells
present in the cord blood using Baxter Optipress volume reduction
technology. After the addition of a cryoprotectant (DMSO), which
allows the cells to be safely frozen, the cells are packaged
in a freezing bag with two compartments (Pall bag)and then carefully
frozen using a rate controlled freezing machine and stored in
liquid nitrogen vapour phase at ultra low temperatures of -196°C.
Our closed system storage technique ensures that the sample
never comes in contact with other samples or any external
elements.
Stem cells cryropreserved using this technology have been
successfully stored for at least 15 years, however a number
of experts believe these cells may be safely stored indefinitely.
