THE COLLECTION PROCESS: Cells for Life clients are given their own personalized umbilical cord blood collection kit, which they will bring to hospital at the time of delivery.  Each kit is clearly labeled and each client is given a registration number to ensure proper identification of the cord blood sample once it arrives at our laboratory for processing. At birth, after the safe delivery of the baby, the doctor/midwife will use the Cells for Life collection kit to obtain as much blood from the umbilical cord and placenta as possible. It takes only a few minutes to collect the cord blood and the process causes no pain, inconvenience or risk to the mother or the baby. Once the blood is collected, arrangements will be made for transport to the Cells for Life laboratory for the processing and storage of these valuable stem cells.
